Introduction of elements of informal education at the Department of Software
Distance learning in quarantine conditions has made its own adjustments to the organization of the educational process of students at the Department of Software. But, along with new challenges, we have also opened up new opportunities for informal education of students.
As a result, 17 students in the specialty 121 Software Engineering and 22 students in the specialty 122 Computer Science received Siemens Certificates, confirming their knowledge in accordance with the requirements of the Siemens Technical Education Program. The first to successfully cope with the task was a student from the KNT-128sp group, Hanna Vicheva, who received the Certificate on April 2, 2020.
This became possible thanks to the experience of the world-famous company Siemens and its Siemens Technical Education Program. As part of this program, the company offers various training courses, including the Basics of Electricity course, which provides students with basic knowledge in software and hardware development of embedded and cyber-physical systems, implementation of Internet of Things technologies, development of Smart Home and Smart City systems.
To increase the efficiency of the learning process, students were offered, in addition to the original version of the course in English, a course adapted by us in Ukrainian. After mastering the course materials, students had the opportunity to take an online test on the Siemens website and, in case of successful confirmation of knowledge (more than 70% of correct answers), receive the corresponding Certificate.
Additional points for successful students who received Certificates were credited within the framework of the relevant disciplines that they studied in the spring semester.
The experience gained is interesting and useful, as it motivates students to study advanced technologies of world-famous companies and implement the knowledge gained in their further professional activities.
