Congratulations to the winners of the International Open Student Programming Olympiad «KPI-OPEN 2014»
From June 30 to July 5, 2014, the Ninth International Open Student Programming Olympiad named after S.O. Lebedev and V.M. Glushkov KPI-OPEN 2014 was held at the National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» (NTUU «KPI»).
The team of students of the Department of Software Tools ZNTU_SetUp (Zadorozhny Evgeny Vitaliyovych, Bezsonov Andriy Georgiyovych, Kosarenko Viktoriya Gennadiyivna, KNT-411, 4th year) performed excellently, taking the 3rd prize place. The team’s presence at the Olympiad was made possible thanks to the support of the administration and the trade union committee of ZNTU students, as well as the IT company «NOOSPHERE».
The organizers of the Olympiad «KPI-OPEN 2014» have traditionally been NTUU «KPI» and Vanopl Development Group with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as the Cybernetics Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. «KPI-OPEN 2014» meets all international requirements for programming Olympiads and is an ideal platform for meeting young programmers from Ukraine and other countries.
The main goal of the Olympiad – This is drawing public attention to intellectual competitions among students, popularizing intellectual development and teamwork, improving the professional level of young specialists, developing inter-university ties, and establishing personal contacts between students from different cities and countries. At the same time, IT companies that join the Olympiad get a great opportunity to find new employees among the best young candidates. It has also become a practice to hold presentations, seminars, and lectures together with the Olympiad, during which IT company specialists share their own practical experience and knowledge, and also introduce young programmers to the challenges facing the industry at this stage of its development.

Over the 9 years of the Olympiad’s existence, more than 600 teams and almost 2,500 students from 13 countries, 63 cities and 157 higher educational institutions have participated in it. In 2014, 56 teams representing higher education institutions in Ukraine, Hungary, and Estonia competed in the Programming Olympiad.
The jury recognized the following teams as the winners of the Olympiad:
- 1st place – Flawless (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv).
- 2nd place – LNU Penguins (Ivan Franko National University of Lviv) and ONU 1 2/3 (I.I. Mechnikov National University of Odessa).
- 3rd place – SuperMario (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv), DNU-Cifeidion (Oles Honchar National University of Dnipropetrovsk) and ZNTU_SetUp (Zaporizhzhia National Technical University).
Thus, the main crystal prize of the «KPI-OPEN» tournament this year remains in Kyiv – with the team of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The winners and prize-winners, along with diplomas of the corresponding category, received valuable gifts from sponsors. And the teams that took from seventh to twenty-sixth places inclusive, were awarded diplomas «For high achievements».
