Opening of the memorial plaque of Popov V.S

On October 17, 2017, a solemn event was held at the entrance of the main building of ZNTU on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the birthday of the founder of the welding department Popov Veniamin Stepanovich, who headed «Mashinka» from 1978 to 1993. Former and current teachers of the department, as well as graduates, visited the holiday.

The memorial plaque to Veniamin Stepanovich Popov was opened by Serhii Belikov, rector of ZNTU, professor, doctor of philosophy, Serhii Popov, nephew of Veniamin Stepanovich, who has been working at the welding department since 1980, general director of PJSC «Zaporizhtransformator» Ihor Kleiner, as well as the head of this department Oleksandr Ovchinnikov.

Colleagues and graduates shared their memories of Veniamin Stepanovich. It was clear from the words that he was an outstanding and amazing person who taught others a lot and made a significant contribution to the development of industry.

Sculptor Borys Chak noted that it was very difficult to create a bas-relief, because «a sculpture is not only an external part, it is important to convey the character of a person,» said the sculptor. And those who knew Veniamin Stepanovich personally recognized their teacher and colleague in the memorial plaque.

It is known that for more than 50 years, the department has graduated more than 3,000 engineers! Today, the department is developing dynamically, despite the difficult conditions in the industry. Five doctors of science, seven candidates of science work at the department.

After the ceremony of opening the commemorative plaque, all the guests went to the solemn meeting of the «Equipment and Technology of Welding Production» department.
