Solemnly honored the memory of victims of repression
May 19 is celebrated in Ukraine as the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repressions. This sorrowful date every year reminds us of historical events that have not yet had an unambiguous assessment, however, since they are associated with mass cruelty, they should never be repeated. In Zaporizhzhia, the Day of Remembrance was marked by a solemn laying of flowers at the Memorial Sign to the Victims of Political Repressions. The event was attended by the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Oleksandr Peklushenko, the Mayor of Zaporizhzhia Oleksandr Sin, the Head of the District Administration for the Zhovtnevy District of Zaporizhzhia Oleksandr Manokhin, representatives of the regional and city authorities, as well as the Rector of the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University Serhiy Belikov, the Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Youth Council, the Head of the Trade Union Committee of ZNTU Students Andriy Ivanchenko, and students of our university. The participants of the event together recalled the bloody pages of the political development of our country, after which a service was held for those who died during the difficult years of persecution and flowers were laid at the memorial stone.
There is a correct opinion that millions, if not billions, can agree with: it is necessary to take into account the experience of past years in order to build a happy future. And especially – negative and terrible experience, in order to eliminate its repetition. Therefore, such events are simply necessary for the formation of healthy thinking among young people in the direction of peaceful progress, development and prosperity of their native land!
