Ukrainian-Italian comedy «IZI»
15.09.2017 in the cinema named after O. Dovzhenka, a screening of the Ukrainian-Italian comedy «IZI» took place. We remind you that the premiere took place on September 14, 2017. The ZNTU students’ professional committee gave ZNTU students the opportunity to watch the film for free.
Before the screening, the audience had the opportunity to listen to comments about the film from executive producer Kateryna Lesyk and actress Veronika Shostak. The girls announced that the work was difficult, but effective. In addition, this is the first Ukrainian-Italian co-production. After that the movie started. The audience eagerly awaited the start.
Looking ahead, revealing a little mystery, I will tell you something about the film. So, the work of the Ukrainian-Italian film crew came to glory. Indeed, the film was shot in a very high-quality, professional, original way. This is a story about a young but very complex man, an Italian Formula 1 driver in the past, Isidoro. Hence the name – a shortened form of his name. He was once a sought-after go-kart driver, but now he sits at home, playing video games and eating his mother’s cakes. And life would be just as carefree and happy, if not for one unfortunate incident: one man dies, whose body needs to be transported to Ukraine. This is where all Isidoro’s adventures begin. The film is unlike any picture of Ukrainian cinema, it is really worth watching. After the viewing, everyone had the opportunity to ask all the questions they were interested in to the creative team of the film. The conversation was quite intense, there were many questions to which the audience was looking for answers. In response, the producer and the actress shared some details of the shooting. It turns out that the work was not easy. The guests said that the Italians were pleasantly surprised by the hard work of the Ukrainians, after all, being used to a maximum of eight hours of filming, they were shocked when the Ukrainians filmed for 19 hours. It was not without curiosities. Once, due to overwork and lack of sleep, the illuminator had an epileptic attack. The man fell into the ditch. Fortunately, other employees noticed this. While pulling out a colleague from the west, the administrator was injured: it turns out that when he was lifting the illuminator, the latter bit his finger. There was only one car, so it was necessary to leave everyone behind and go to the hospital. After sending one victim to a medical facility, everyone realized that there were actually two of them. There was no transport, and the person had to go to the hospital. Fortunately, it was possible to catch a passing car. These are the adventures. In general, during all filming there were a lot of obstacles that the talented crew managed to bypass. Even weather conditions did not get in the way. Actress Veronika Shostak shared her thoughts. She noted that «IZI» is laughter through tears. And also the fact that the film is very ambiguous. Director Andrea Magnani wanted the image of Isidoro, who drags the coffin behind him on a cart, to show the person himself, the personality. This, in principle, is each of us. The coffin is our problems, worries, everything that we cannot let go of and continue to drag with us. Will Izzy get rid of it? See it for yourself.
We were also told about the film’s budget. 1,200,000 euros were spent on the film, 58% of which was the Ukrainian contribution. And it’s worth it. Really, I want to watch this movie again, to take something more ambiguous for myself. After all, the whole comedy is permeated with a golden thread of ambiguity. Here you can draw individual conclusions, come up with a sequel, consider possible situations, you can live here… Watch the movie, draw conclusions and be happy!
