As part of the Aviator project, contestants demonstrated their knowledge of technical English
On February 7, the second qualifying stage of the educational competition «Aviator 2019» was held in leading universities in Ukraine. The initiator and organizer of the project is the Boris Kolesnikov Charitable Foundation and is implementing it for the eighth time for creative and gifted students of technical specialties.
According to the results of the first round, 3 000 contestants continued the fight in the «Aviator». As part of the second stage, they passed a test in technical English, demonstrated their knowledge of one of the key academic subjects for aviators.
The President of the Charitable Foundation Boris Kolesnikov wished the students success, luck and healthy competition in the project. He also emphasized that the «Aviator» competition is an excellent starting point for young entrepreneurs and junior researchers, supporting leadership skills in the younger generation. «For students of aviation universities, knowledge of English terminology is the same requirement as knowledge of higher mathematics or aerodynamics. This is a plus in the modern labor market, which increases the chances of employment. Sufficient motivation for learning a foreign language is the need to study technical documentation or read thematic articles on foreign resources. The result shown by young aviators today will accompany them throughout their lives. How successfully they mastered technical English, the more successful they will be in aviation. Moreover, in domestic aviation, since we really want them to stay and work in our country,» – noted Boris Kolesnikov.
The students themselves speak about the need to learn English and improve their knowledge. «The labor market is highly competitive, and knowledge of a second language is an advantage when hiring a large company. For those who are thinking about the future, knowledge of English is an important addition to professional knowledge. And for working in the aviation industry, knowledge of special English vocabulary is a necessary condition. I think that participating in the student competition is a way to prepare for work, to prove to myself that I am ready to compete with other applicants», – said Anastasiia Podvihaylo, a 3rd year student at the College of Rocket and Space Engineering of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.
The results of the second stage will be known by the end of this month. The contestants who have done excellently with the tasks in technical English will go to the third round. They will be tested on their knowledge of the history and theory of the aviation industry, as well as defending their own project in the final.
The expert jury will name one hundred winners of «Aviator», who will present promising and original business ideas in the aerospace industry. They will be awarded certificates for a trip to France, to the Le Bourget 2019 international air show. The aviators will go to Paris in June. There they will meet with foreign specialists and experts, visit the stands of the giants of the global and domestic aviation industry, get acquainted with innovations and novelties of the industry. A visit to Disneyland will also be organized for Ukrainian students.
Let us recall that the Boris Kolesnikov Foundation twice became the leader of the Rating of Philanthropists in the nomination «Funds for the Development of Science and Education in Ukraine» in the list of organizations with a budget of 10 to 100 million UAH per year. The foundation has been implementing educational, sports and cultural events, projects and programs for Ukrainian youth for ten years.
