Over 8,000 contestants took part in the first stage of the Aviator 2018

Over 8,000 contestants took part in the first stage of the Aviator 2018

On December 11, the first stage of the educational project «Aviator 2018» took place in 50 leading technical universities of Ukraine. The competition is being held by the Boris Kolesnikov Foundation for the seventh time with the aim of supporting students of technical specialties, motivating them to develop and encouraging the best of them with trips to specialized aviation forums in the UK and France.

8,200 students from all over the country registered for the competition. According to the rules, this year, students of all forms of study, postgraduate students and young specialists up to 25 years of age were allowed to participate in the «Aviator». This significantly expanded the geography and audience of the project, gave an opportunity to more contestants to declare themselves and their talents.

The President of the Charitable Foundation, Boris Kolesnikov, congratulated the contestants and wished them good luck and an interesting competition. «The Aviator Contest has set off on its seventh flight. It is attended by boys and girls, behind whom the future of Ukrainian aviation depends. These are young specialists who will build supersonic passenger aircraft, which are connected with military transport aviation and new space research. I wish everyone a good flight!», – noted Boris Kolesnikov.

During the first stage, the contestants solved problems in the exact sciences. For 1.5 hours, they demonstrated their knowledge of mathematics and physics. Based on the results of this round, students will be selected who will continue the fight in the project for a trip to the Farnborough International Aviation Forum in the UK.

«The first stage of «Aviator» did not seem very difficult to me. I hope to overcome the other rounds of the competition with the same ease. I already know what project I will present to the jury members in the final, perhaps one of them will help me implement it, support my idea of developing the domestic aviation industry», – said contestant Ivan Dubrovsky from Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.

Two more qualifying stages await the participants ahead – testing in technical English (in February 2018), as well as in the history and theory of aviation (in March 2018). In April, the final will take place, during which students will present their own projects to experts led by aircraft designer Dmytro Kiva.

One hundred of the most talented and promising contestants will be awarded a trip to the Farnborough Air Show in London, which will be held in July.

As a reminder, the Boris Kolesnikov Foundation has been implementing educational projects for 9 years. Over the years of the existence of the «Aviator», about 12,000 students of technical specialties have participated in it, and 500 of them became winners and visited the best European aviation forums. In 2017, for its significant contribution to the development of science and education in Ukraine, the Boris Kolesnikov Foundation was named the Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum – the largest charitable organization with a budget of over 10 million UAH.
