A memorial plaque to the Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kadenyuk was unveiled at the National Forestry University

A memorial plaque to the Hero of Ukraine, the first astronaut of an independent country, Leonid Kadenyuk, was unveiled at the academic building of the National Forestry University.

«We collaborated with Leonid Kadenyuk on environmental issues,— said the rector of the university, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Professor Yurii Tunytsia. — He was a great patriot who made a significant contribution to space exploration. At one time, for his services to science, the academic council of our educational institution awarded him the title of honorary doctor».

Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Roman Filipov emphasized that the Ukrainian state has given the world many outstanding people who worked in various fields, among them — Leonid Kadenyuk. He was not only an astronaut, but also a great scientist.

The rector of Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, Professor Serhiy Belikov, spoke about the merits of the first astronaut to the country and his role in educating young people.

And it is deeply symbolic that the representative of Zaporizhzhia, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Vyacheslav Boguslaev, helped install the memorial plaque.

People’s Artist of Ukraine Yaroslav Skakun also spoke at the ceremony, immortalizing the image of Leonid Kadenyuk in bas-relief. The consecration ceremony was performed by the head of the Student Chaplaincy Center, Father Yurko Ostap'yuk, and the parish priest of the student church of NLTU, Father Roman Dovgan.
