ZNTU Faculty of Transport — 55!
It would seem that transport and transport. What is there, actually, to study it? Drive yourself and that’s all! But this is just a stereotype, because in fact, the modern organization of transportation of goods and passengers is a complex and multi-stage process – a combination of knowledge, skill and a creative look at seemingly prosaic things.
The rapid development of scientific and technical progress and comprehensive globalization put the study and solution of transport problems of the rub. Today, the issue of creating modern vehicles with regard to reliability, economy, environmental friendliness and solving the problems of their effective use in transportation processes is the primary task of a specialist in the transport industry.
It is not at all surprising that the biography of the transport (until 1994 – automobile, in 1994–2001 – automechanics) faculty at our university began in the heyday of the Soviet automobile industry in 1961, when by order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Ukrainian SSR, an automotive faculty was created at the Zaporizhzhia Mechanical Engineering Institute, which trained mechanical engineers from the specialty «Automobiles and tractors» and technological engineers from the specialty «Aviation engines». The faculty included the departments of resistance of materials (head of Assoc. Prof. Hovanesov G. A.), theoretical mechanics and theory of mechanisms and machines (head of Assoc. Assoc. I. Y. Ivakhnin), heat engineering and hydraulics (head of Assoc. Assoc. V. D. Olyak), sketch geometry and drawing (head of Bulat P. F.).
After the successful graduation of the first engineers in 1964, the department of automobiles was separated from the department of thermal engineering and hydraulics, which was headed by Assoc. A. M. Holomidov In 1972, the department of industrial transport was created at the institute, which trained engineers in the specialty «Industrial transport» (the first head of the department was associate professor Zavhorodniy I. P.) and became part of the automotive faculty in 1974. At that time, the department of industrial transport was headed by Assoc. Babushkin G. F., and the Department of Resistance of Materials – prof. V. V. Abramov
In 1980, the department of graphic geometry and drawing became a part of the newly created mechanical and technological faculty and returned to the automotive faculty, which had already been renamed the automechanic faculty, in 1994. Also, during the reorganization, the department of automation of forging and stamping production (headed by Prof. V. I. Dubina) became part of the faculty.
In 2000, the Department of Industrial Transport, headed by Assoc. Yudin V. P., was renamed to «Transport Technologies», and in 2014 the Department of Thermal Engineering and Hydraulics became the graduation department for training specialists in the «Internal Combustion Engines» specialty and received the appropriate name.
Assoc. Assoc. V. Kh. Kozyrev (dean of the faculty in 1985–1998 and 2000–2016) and Assoc. O. V. Yavtushenko (dean of the faculty in 1998–2000).
Today, the faculty includes five departments, three of which are graduate departments – «Automobiles» (head Prof. A. F. Golovchuk), «Internal Combustion Engines» (head Prof. G. I. Slinko), «Transport Technologies» (head Prof. Babushkin G. F.), and two general engineering departments – «Mechanics» (head Assoc. Prof. Shevchenko V. G.), «Narysna geometry, engineering and computer graphics» (head Prof. V. A. Shalomeev). The faculty prepares bachelors, specialists and masters in full-time and part-time forms of study in specialties 133 «Industrial mechanical engineering» (educational programs «Wheel and tracked vehicles» and «Internal combustion engines») and 275 «Transport technologies» (specializations «Railway transport» and «Automobile transport»).
The faculty can tell more than one hundred success stories of its graduates and is proud of them. Among them, heads of state institutions and educational institutions, leading enterprises and transport departments are known not only in Zaporizhzhia, but also far beyond its borders: Rector of Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, Professor S. B. Belikov (graduated in 1975); V. A. Boguslaev, president and general designer of Motor-Sich JSC; B. F. Petrov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration in 2010–2011 (graduated in 1974); the mayor of Zaporizhzhia in 2003–2010, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration in 1999 and 2001–2003 E. G. Kartashov (graduated in 1969); president of the association «Zaporizhobalavtotrans» I.E. Ivanov (graduation of 1986); O. Kh. Papashev, deputy chairman of the board of JSC «Ukravto» for production (graduation of 1973); director of the municipal electric transport company «Zaporizhelectrotrans» in 2005–2012. Ryzhenkykh M. V. (graduated in 1983); director of the transport and production department of JSC «Motor-Sich» Molchanov M.M. (graduated in 1983); general director of the holding company «AvtoKrAZ» S. V. Sazonov (1976); head of the railway transport department of PJSC «Zaporizhstal» Nagykh K.V. (graduated in 1978); head of the railway transport department of PJSC «Dniprospetsstal» Cherednichenko V. V. (graduated in 1978) and others.
However, the transport faculty today not only relies on 55 years of traditional experience, but also constantly improves in step with the latest trends in the transport industry. The consensus of teachers of different age groups – the «old» school, the first experts in the field in independent Ukraine, and the new young generation of teachers and researchers makes it possible to look at the processes of scientific research and teaching and educational activities as fully as possible. The quality of training of specialists is ensured by three academicians, six doctors of science, 23 associate professors, highly qualified and experienced senior teachers, assistants and teaching and support staff.
We sincerely congratulate all current and former teachers and employees, graduates and students of the faculty on the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Transport and wish them further creative and life success!
