Modern technologies — for future students

Modern technologies — for future students

Back in October of last year according to the project plan DESIRE «Development of courses on embedded systems using innovative virtual approaches for the integration of science, education and industry in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia» rector of ZNTU prof. S. Belikov and project coordinator Dirk Van Merode (Thomas More Mechelen-Antwerp, Belgium) solemnly opened the new Laboratory of Embedded Systems and Virtual Engineering on the basis of the Department of Software. Today, the laboratory is actively working on the implementation of educational and research projects.

Students of the department received enormous opportunities thanks to modern equipment – two laboratory servers, computers, various software and hardware platforms (Arduino, Altera Cyclone, Raspberry Pi), robotics training platforms Formula Flowcode Buggy, 3D printer Leapfrog Creatr HS, 3D scanner Gotcha, remotely controlled GOLDI experiments. There are already the first significant practical results – own developments, reports at conferences, articles in world-class scientific journals, author’s certificates, diploma from the National exhibition competition «Outstanding scientific and practical achievements in education» in the nomination «Electronic educational resource».

Teachers of the department gained new experience and practical skills thanks to the project. Thus, department assistants Zhanna Kaminska and Olha Gladkova, together with their colleagues from Kyiv University named after Borys Grinchenko, took part in the training «Technologies of using 3D devices in engineering education». Training for teachers took place on the basis of the company FABBERS (Kyiv) in the summer of last year. During the training, the participants got acquainted with the technologies of 3D printing and 3D scanning, with the methods of creating physical prototypes based on a virtual 3D model, with various materials used for 3D printing (ABS plastic, PLA plastic, wax, photopolymers, etc.), with the specialized software used and its settings.

Modern technologies are actively implemented not only in the educational process of students of the department of software tools, but also in career guidance work with future applicants. For example, Formula Flowcode Buggy robotics training platforms were actively presented at the Applicant-2016 exhibition in the Kozak Palace, as well as at the Open Day in the ZNTU assembly hall. And there were always many interested young people at our stand!

On February 19, 2016, the teachers of the software department Larisa Deinega, Oleksandr Kachan, Zhanna Kaminska prepared and held an open day of the department for students of Zaporizhzhia Technical Lyceum, in particular, for the robotics team under the leadership of teacher Tkachenko T.V. Lyceum students who take an active part in robotics tournaments and Olympiads got acquainted with modern technology, innovative technologies used in the educational process of the software department. In particular, Zhanna Kaminska demonstrated 3D printing technology. Oleksandr Kachan spoke about the hardware of the Laboratory of Embedded Systems and Remote Engineering. Larisa Deinega, together with students of the 2nd year of the Department of Software, demonstrated the operation of the Formula Flowcode Buggy platform – finding a way in a labyrinth using light sensors, as well as moving along a route chosen using color sensors.

Lyceum students enthusiastically received the new information, and teachers discussed ways of future cooperation with the lyceum and invited students to study at the Department of Software Tools of ZNTU.

Anzhelika Parkhomenko,
associate professor of the department of software
