Modern European equipment for teaching Internet of Things technologies
Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and in particular home automation are rapidly developing all over the world, as they allow to increase the level of comfort and safety of residents of apartments and houses, as well as save resources (water, electricity, gas, etc.).
That is why, within the framework of the international educational project ERASMUS+ ALIoT «Internet of Things: a new curriculum for the needs of industry and society», in close cooperation with PKF Motor (director Oleksandr Fisyuk), which is the official representative of the world-famous Legrand company, at the Department of Software of the National University «Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic» created a MY HOME training stand, which will allow students to conduct experiments with modern European home automation equipment, study the features of connecting sensors and actuators, as well as program scenarios for controlling the Smart Home system.
Students of the Software Department have already participated in the seminar-training on the development of home automation systems, which was conducted by specialists from PKF Motor Maksym Khrunov and Denys Kolpakov. In addition, participants of the ALIoT project also had the opportunity to visit the company showroom in May of this year as part of the Spring School.
To date, the ALIoT project has purchased basic Legrand home automation equipment, which is located at the Department of Software, in the Laboratory of Embedded Systems and Remote Engineering (a.53 a), in a special cabinet for safe and visual use. In particular, this is equipment for controlling lighting and drives, zone thermal control, a basic gateway for remote control, configuring and programming the system, as well as a block of complex scenarios.
In addition, additional equipment for the training stand was purchased at our own expense: a video camera, an RGB LED strip, a fan coil valve, a motion sensor, a display, etc. The training stand was designed and manufactured by Artem Tulenkov, a graduate student of the Department of Software, and connected to a cabinet with Legrand control equipment. The launch of the educational stand was attended by a specialist from PKF Motor, Denys Kolpakov, who co-authored a report at the ZNTU-2019 Science Week «Research on the features of the Legrand hardware and software platform for the implementation of the Smart Home system.»
In the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, the MY HOME educational stand will be used as part of teaching the discipline «Physical foundations of modern information technologies» for master’s students in the specialty 122 Computer Science.
In addition, for interested specialists from companies and enterprises in the region, a specially developed course «Software and Hardware Platform Engineering for the Smart Home System» is offered within the framework of the ALIoT project.
Thus, the implementation of the ALIoT project will provide new opportunities for students and teachers of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic, as well as contribute to strengthening ties with manufacturing enterprises and companies.
