ZNTU students are winners of the 2016 All-Ukrainian Olympiad in Cultural Studies.
On April 3 – 5, 2016, the II round of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Cultural Studies took place, which was held for the third year in a row at the National Technical University of Ukraine «KPI» in Kyiv. After that year’s participation in the VSO in cultural studies, our university received an invitation again. From the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, the winners of the first round of the Olympiad took part in the competition – students of FEU-113 groups Kateryna Shlender and Anastasiia Shiblova under the guidance of Art. faculty teacher of Ukrainian Studies and ZMP Syhyda Halyna Anatoliivna. The preparatory stage required writing essays on given topics in a fairly short period of time with a check for plagiarism. The girls chose the following topics for preparation: «Interpretation of William Shakespeare’s images and plots in world art», «Greco-Scythian pectoral: cosmological symbolism of images and structure». The works have successfully passed this stage. Then the participants were received by the Department of Philosophy of the Institute of Sociology and Law of NTUU. In total, more than 45 students participated in the decisive stage – representatives of leading universities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kryvyi Rih, Nizhyn, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Drogobych, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, Donetsk (Vinnytsia) and Lviv.
After the ceremonial opening, students took part in comprehensive testing, which consisted of three blocks of questions: questions on the theory of culture (10), questions on the history of culture (9), questions on applied cultural studies (8). After a coffee break, the defense of essays took place. Shlender K. and Shyblova A. brilliantly performed the presentations of their topics in full accordance with the content of the previous abstracts. Sigida G.A. took part in a seminar for teachers on the problems of teaching cultural studies in technical universities. In the evening, the general results were summarized: we were 0.5 points short of reaching the finals. The girls were noticed and awarded with diplomas: Shlender K.O. for the victory in the 1st round of the 2nd stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline «Culturology» in the nomination «Best presentation of creative work», A.M. Shiblov. for the victory in the 1st round of the 2nd stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in the discipline «Culturology» in the nomination «Innovative approach in the development of scientific problems». Sigida G.A. received «Thank you» for the highly professional thorough training of students.
