Student building squad works in dormitory No. 2
The 2012/2013 academic year brought many pleasant moments for the residents of dormitory No. 2. In particular, for more than one year, students complained about the poor water supply and sewage system, which did not allow them to take a shower or use hot water properly. A number of other problems were directly related to the toilets and washbasins, which in appearance could be attributed to the 19th century.
The efforts of the student construction team, created by the student trade union committee, solved many problems that were not so acute in nature, but still needed to be solved.
The work was carried out: a modern ventilation system was installed in the dormitory shower, the water supply system in the toilets and washbasins was replaced, new taps were installed, new tiles appeared in the dormitory washbasins, and a smoking area was arranged.
From the words of the students themselves, we can also draw encouraging conclusions:
«I got to the dormitory in 2009, the conditions were Spartan. We survived as best we could. We furnished our room, made repairs. They only went to the kitchen, toilet or washbasin when absolutely necessary. Whether they were afraid of breaking the already poor plumbing, or they simply scorned it – I don’t know. But now everything is changing, I probably don’t have such good conditions at home as in the dormitory, it’s a pity that this is my last year» – resident of dormitory No. 2 Savchenko Kostyantyn.
«Most of my friends who live in the fourth dormitory constantly made fun of me, talking about the poor living conditions in my dormitory. I even wanted to move in with them, but after the renovation the initiative passed into my hands, because now it’s even better here. I don’t know how it is on other floors, but my native second one has changed beyond recognition» – told Perepelytsia Artur.
«I can say with confidence that not only the second floor, but the entire dormitory is approaching European standards» – Head of Dormitory No. 2 Petro Yegorovych Vasin.
Given the fact that the current quarter has just begun, and work on updating Dormitory No. 2 is still ongoing, we can say that housing and living conditions will definitely improve.
Also taking into account the initiative of the Housing and Living Commission of the Trade Union Committee of ZNTU students, who put forward a proposal to join the dormitories of the university’s structural units to the ZNTU campus, such as: the dormitory of the Zaporizhzhia College of Radio Electronics of ZNTU and the dormitory of the Zaporizhzhia Electrotechnical College, and the support of the university administration, we can draw analytical conclusions regarding targeted activities to expand activities in the field of improving living conditions for all non-resident students of our university and their comfortable living in them.
Thanks to the use of living spaces in the dormitories of the university’s structural units, the conditions have significantly improved accommodation in university dormitories and the needs of all non-resident students in dormitories and the quality of their accommodation in them are met.
The Trade Union Committee of Students, Postgraduate Students, and Doctoral Students of ZNTU, headed by Andriy Ivanchenko, together with the campus management, clearly regulate the course for improving the quality of student accommodation in dormitories that are on the balance of our university.
