The Path to Science: Section «Local Studies», April 17, 2013

NUZP

Many people say that scientific conferences are unpopular among students nowadays, that science is not of interest to modern youth, and few are interested in the problems of the modern world and the events of the past… However, exceptions to the «rules» do exist, and direct confirmation of this is the meeting of the «Local Studies» section, which was held as part of the all-university «Science Week-2013». Modern youth really take their scientific activities very seriously. This is evidenced by the number of participants: as many as 17 students of the 1st-3rd year of the «International Economic Relations» specialty presented their reports. The topics considered by young scientists were quite diverse. Some students tried to understand recent events, and some were not afraid to consider old events from a different perspective. The topic prepared by Solomko Tetyana (gr. GF-222) was quite interesting – «Policy of the Dutch Government towards Soft Drugs», which immediately sparked a lively discussion among the participants. The discussion of US policy, which followed the report «Characteristics of Barack Obama’s Presidency» by the meeting secretary – Oleksandra Deyeva (gr. GF-210), was emotional. All participants demonstrated an excellent level of preparation, oratory, and the ability to use a creative approach. Balim Oksana (gr. GF-222) and Anastasiia Anastasseva (gr. GF-222) responsibly approached the topics they presented, namely: these were the reports: «The Chechen War» and «Socio-economic Problems of the Peoples of Nagorno-Karabakh». Their speeches embarrassed all the conference participants and made them think about human cruelty. The topic of human suffering was touched upon by first-year student Gorozhina Oksana (gr. GF-212). The topic of her report was «The Serbian population after the declaration of independence of Kosovo». The genocide of the Serbian population in Kosovo struck everyone with its inhuman attitude towards the Serbs. It is also necessary to note the topic «Problems of Northern Ireland at the beginning of the 21st century», which was prepared by Vorovska Kateryna (gr. GF-212), because the bloody events in Northern Ireland left no one indifferent.

The participants were evaluated by the participants themselves, according to five main criteria, namely: novelty of the material, scientific approach, oratory, quality of multimedia presentation, as well as the ability to clearly answer the questions posed. Those who scored the highest number of points were awarded memorable prizes:

  • 1st place:

    Voskovtsov K.A., student group GF-212;
  • 2nd place:

    Vorovska K.A., student group GF-212;

    Gorozhina O.O., student group GF-212;
  • 3rd place:

    Deeva O.S., student group GF-210;

    Korol K.Yu., student group GF-212;

    Solomka T.O., student group GF-222.

Most of the speakers were first-year students, which once again confirms the fact that studying in the 21st century is fashionable, and senior scientists are getting a worthy replacement.

The work of the section was supervised by the chairman – Dean of the Faculty of Humanities M.V. Dedkov and the secretary of the section – student of group GF-210 Deeva O.S.
