«Shield» of the university

Student’s wife for protection of public order of ZNTU «Shyt» dates back to 1995. The initiators of the creation of this union were the student sector of the ZDTU trade union committee headed by the then chairman Ihor Viktorovych Meshchan. Vasyl Fedorovych Devochkin, deputy head of the student sector of the trade union committee, became the first commander of the SD «SHIELD».

Today, «SHIELDS» includes senior students who, after successfully completing the «young fighter course», passing exams, and taking loyalty oaths, have the right to be considered full members of the structure and receive regular financial incentives for their work.

In 1999, Volodymyr Anatoliyovych Pilishenko headed the SD «Shield», who to this day is successfully engaged in professional training and education of the «combat spirit» of the members of the team. About three dozen «fighters» of various courses are currently under his tutelage.

The field of activity of «shields» is very wide: protection of public order on the territory of the university during mass events, entrance exams for applicants; work on the prevention of crimes and offenses, ensuring order at various sports, cultural and mass events of both university and city importance. Attendance at handball and basketball games and during a number of concerts of student creativity.

Out-of-town students have the opportunity to see our «SHIELDS» on the territory of the dormitories with regular raids by representatives of the trade union committee and the management of the campus. They also cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Fighters are busy working and training all year round. In August, the so-called «field meetings» are held: for two weeks, classes are held almost every day on the territory of the military department of ZNTU – working with combat weapons, studying certain laws of Ukraine and the statute of the special forces, practicing the techniques of hand-to-hand combat, and newcomers also prepare for the oath.

Representatives of «SHIELD» constantly successfully participate in hand-to-hand combat competitions, as evidenced by numerous awards. During the competition at the open championship of Ukraine «Spas-2013», which took place on December 21, 2013, the boys won prizes, in particular, the first place went to Levchenko D.S. (IF-510), A.F. Filonenko (UFKS-128), O.M. Konyushkevich (M-218), second place – VV Grachov. and honorary third – T.R. Jabbarov. (KPU). Skill in martial arts and in the possession of firearms can be traced in their demonstrative performances.

Recently, the planned purchase of necessary equipment for training took place. The participants and management of the special unit express their sincere thanks to the trade union committee of students, postgraduates and doctoral students of ZNTU for updating the material and technical equipment of the SHIT student body and their training base.
