Regarding the election of the rector of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University
«Mashynka» this year celebrates the 120th anniversary of its founding. Today it is the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University. For 26 years, the university was headed by an outstanding person – Belikov S.B. And it so happened that this year his powers as rector ended.
By order No. 219-k dated 07/30/2020 «On announcing competitions for filling the positions of heads of higher education institutions» and methodological recommendations for holding elections of heads of higher education institutions, specified in clause 1 of the above order, in accordance with the requirements of Art. 42 of the Law of Ukraine «On Higher Education» in paragraph 9 of the methodological recommendations it is indicated that candidates can be nominated by the labor collective or its structural unit, the primary trade union organization of employees and students of a higher educational institution, as well as by self-nomination. Elections at the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University are scheduled for November 26, 2020.
And here is the first swallow. The Department of «Equipment and Technology of Welding Production» held a meeting on August 14 and unanimously nominated its head – Professor Ovchinnikov O.V. for the position of rector of the university. All those who spoke highly appreciated the candidate for rector: he is a graduate of the department, has two higher educations – technical and economic; has a scientific degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the field of materials science; Ovchinnikov O.V. – professor of the departments of «Mechanics» and «Technologies of Aviation Engine Building». He has experience in creating new innovative projects: he created and heads the research center «Titan-Zaporizhzhia» at the university. The Center carries out work on the development of new technologies and materials for metallurgical and machine-building enterprises, as well as design organizations (including LLC «Zaporizhzhia Titanium-Magnesium Combine», JSC «Motor Sich», SE «ZMKB »Progress« named after Academician O.G. Ivchenko and others). To implement projects, it has close scientific, production and financial ties with a number of departments of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, higher educational institutions of Ukraine, large and medium-sized enterprises.
Today, with the participation of our hero of the day, the production of spherical and non-spherical powders of zirconium, nickel and other alloys for 3D printers is being developed and implemented; an import-substituting resource-saving technology for obtaining blades for gas turbine engines for unmanned aerial vehicles is being developed; the production of medical implants from domestic materials using 3D printing technology is underway; the investment project »Technopark of Active Technologies” is waiting for its time.
O.V. Ovchinnikov is a member of the current Technical Commission for Standardization of the State Committee for Consumer Protection and Standardization of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the «Mechanical Engineering» Section of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, a member of the editorial boards of two specialized scientific journals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, a member of the specialized academic council for the defense of candidate and doctoral theses in the specialty «Materials Science». He was the initiator of the first International Conference in Ukraine «Titanium. Production and Use». Today he is the head of the organizing committee of this and a number of other regular all-Ukrainian conferences. In terms of production experience, it should be noted that he worked part-time at JSC «Motor Sich» as deputy chief metallurgist (for scientific work), as well as work as a scientific advisor to the director of PJSC «Titanium Institute».
At the department meeting, colleagues qualified Ovchinnikov O.V. as an educated, intelligent, tolerant and law-abiding person, and these qualities are important in such a responsible position as rector.
