Work at ZNTU with young scientists

The implementation of the international project «Centers of Excellence for young RESearchers» (CERES – «Centers of excellence for young scientists») of the «Tempus» program of the European Union (registration number 544137-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-SK-TEMPUS-JPHES) continues at ZNTU. In the summer of 2016, CERES project team members took part in several events aimed at the development of youth science at the university.

From July 7 to 17, 2016, the BEST Zaporizhzhia student organization, with the support of the trade union committee of ZNTU, organized a summer academic course on the development of computer games «Life is a game, play it in the best way!» on the basis of ZNTU, which was attended by 16 foreign students from Belgium, Slovakia, Austria, Turkey, Germany, Finland, Spain, Poland, Serbia, Portugal. Thanks to the course, students were able to create a computer game from scratch, come up with their plot and make it realistic, communicate with software development specialists and foreign students from different parts of Europe. After listening to a cycle of lectures on the development of computer games, the students received the final task – to develop the concept of their own game from the very beginning. The course ended with a debriefing session at which each participant presented their project. The representatives of the department of software tools of ZNTU participated in the discussion and evaluation of the projects, the head of the department, doctor of technical sciences, prof. S.O. Subbotin and associate professor, Ph.D. A.O. Oil varnish. The participants of the summer course were also informed about the CERES international project. The solemn closing of the event took place with the participation of the rector of ZNTU, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. S.B. Belikova, who told the participants about the university’s international cooperation and congratulated them on completing the course. Students who studied the academic course on computer game development and successfully presented their projects received certificates signed by prof. S.O. On Saturday.

Vice-rector for scientific work, Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. Yu.M. Nukov and the scientific research part of ZNTU organized the participation of young scientists of the university in the competition of projects of scientific works and scientific and technical developments of young scientists, announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. ZNTU representatives submitted applications for five projects. More than four hundred projects were submitted to the competition from all over Ukraine. All scientific works were unified in accordance with the urgent needs of the country’s economy, society and national security, technology development, production and innovative entrepreneurship. An important feature of the GDR competition of young scientists was that the examination was also carried out by young experts for the first time. The requirements of the competition were slightly changed compared to the traditional annual competition of projects for «adult» scientists: the points for evaluating the authors’ previous work were reduced, but the points for evaluating the relevance and novelty of the projects were increased.

On July 27, 2016, a meeting of the expert council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister, Ph.D. n., prof. M.V. Strichy, which included the heads of all sections, in particular a representative of ZNTU – head of section 11 «Development of modern information, communication technologies, robotics» Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. S.O. Saturday It was determined that 37 projects have a high level. It is also recommended to finance those projects that scored 70 points or more. Among the projects of young scientists of ZNTU, one project was identified as a high-level project. Each section also submitted generalized results and proposals for the organization of the competition. The main problem of most project applications is the insufficient level of presentation of material due to the lack of a kind of presentation culture among young scientists, the formation of which requires adaptation to global requirements.

To help young scientists in the preparation of scientific publications, design and submission of materials for scientific conferences and competitions, and with the aim of inculcating the culture of design of scientific works within the framework of the Tempus CERES project, a study guide by S. O. Subbotin and A. O. Oliynik «Handbook on the writing, formatting, review, analysis and publication of scientific works» was prepared and published at ZNTU и публикации научных работ = Handbook on the preparation, design, review, analysis and publication of scientific works”. The book contains a systematic presentation of material on writing, design, and submission of scientific works for publication in scientific publications, as well as an overview of the standards for design of bibliographic references. The issue of authorial and editorial ethics is considered. The principles of review and analysis of scientific publications are given. Advice is given on the preparation of scientific papers for presentations at public events. The publication is intended for students, post-graduate students and scientific and pedagogical staff of higher educational institutions and research institutions.

The closest activity in the realization and implementation of the CERES project is connected with the holding of a summer school in ZNTU in September 2016 with the participation of representatives of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine and other countries.
