«Plast» in the walls of ZNTU

At the initiative of Liudmyla Turchyna, associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies, on November 29, 2014, a meeting with the Zaporizhzhia branch of the national scout organization of Ukraine «Plast» took place within the walls of the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University. Zinova Berezovsky is the head of the local branch of Plastu and actually the initiator of its creation in Zaporizhzhia. The acquaintance of L. Turchyna and Z. Berezovsky took place during the Maidan in Kyiv in January 2014, where they agreed on further cooperation in the education of conscious youth in Zaporizhzhia. The result of the winter arrangements was a tour of ZNTU.

Having wonderful decorations in the form of the main building of ZNTU, L. Turchyna told the «plastuns» about the main milestones of our university’s activities. In particular, about the establishment of the Alexandrov mechanical and technical school, the age category of its students. Information regarding the renaming and subordination of the educational institution in the 1920s and 1930s was received with interest. The listeners were interested in the history of the construction of the university’s educational buildings, its reconstruction in the post-war period; the evaluation system adopted in higher education caused surprise.

Actually, 13-year-old «plastuns» are already at the age when they have to decide on their own preferences for their future. Let’s hope that a tour of the walls of ZNTU and a wonderful friendly atmosphere at the Department of Ukrainian Studies will contribute to replenishing the ranks of the «machine» students. All the more so because the representatives of the «Plast» organization are patriotic, responsible and consciously seek a better fate for Ukraine.
