Results of the World Finals of the ACM-2016 Student Programming Olympiad
From May 15 to May 20, 2016, the final of the ACM International Student Programming Olympiad was held in Phuket, the Kingdom of Thailand, on the basis of Prince of Songkla University.
For the first time in the entire history of the programming Olympiad in the ACM format, the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University (ZNTU) team won the right to participate in the World Finals of the ACM Student Programming Olympiad. The presence of the team at the Olympics was made possible thanks to the support of the rector’s office, the trade union committee of students of ZNTU and IT company Looksery.
ACM ICPC is a world championship in programming among student teams of higher educational institutions. It has been held since 1977 by the international company Association for Computing Machinery and gives ambitious young people the opportunity to test their programming skills against the strongest students in the world.
According to the rules of the competition, each team consists of three students, they have one computer and a set of mathematical problems. The team that solved the largest number of tasks wins, and in case of equality of correct answers, the team that spent less time on it.
In 2016, a record number of participants – 40,266 students from 2,736 universities in 102 countries – competed for the right to enter the finals of the largest world championship, competing on 480 different venues and six continents in order to receive an invitation to the finals of the championship on the island of Phuket. In the main match of the ACM ICPC, 128 teams competed, of which three teams represented Ukraine: Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko, Lviv National University named after Franko and ZNTU.
According to the results of the Olympiad, the ZNTU_SetUp team (Yevgen Vitaliyovych Zadorozhniy, KNT-121m, Andriy Georgiyovych Bezsonov, KNT-421m, Viktoriya Hennadiivna Kosarenko, KNT-111, 5th year) performed excellently and showed a successful result, taking 51st place in the final table of the world finals among the 128 best teams in the world.
