The dream victory of mechatronics engineers of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic Institute

On November 25-30, 2019, NTUU «KPI named after I. Sikorsky» held the XI All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad «Mechatronics in Mechanical Engineering», in which 20 teams (more than 70 students) from Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Pokrovsk, Berdyansk, Lviv, Zhytomyr, Kropyvnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Vinnytsia participated, representing 19 universities of Ukraine.

Traditionally, the Olympiad was held in the form of student team competitions and individual scores. As part of the Olympiad, students first underwent training on Festo equipment used in solving Olympiad tasks, then 2 days of team competitions (5 tasks of 1.5 hours each) and 2 days of individual competitions. Before each stage, a draw was held, which excluded any possibility of preparing a solution to the problem in advance.

During the Olympiad, students developed cycle diagrams and schemes, selected equipment, compiled algorithms, wrote programs for controllers, assembled and debugged mechatronic systems of industrial automation, and presented them to the jury, which evaluated the correctness and speed of the solution.

NU «Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic» was represented by a team of students from the Department of Electric Drive and Automation of Industrial Installations (EPA) in the following composition:

– Shulzhenko Serhiy Serhiyovych, group E-318m,

– Oleinikov Mykola Oleksandrovych, group E-319m,

– Goncharov Dmytro Viktorovich, gr.E-319m

– Novik Dmytro Andriyovych, gr. E-316

Coaches:

– Osadchy Volodymyr Volodymyrovych, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental Protection,

– Nazarova Olena Sergiyevna, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of Environmental Protection.

Thanks to the determination, perseverance, and self-organization of our students and coaches in preparing for the Olympiad, and despite the lack of equipment at the department and the university that is necessary to work with during the Olympiad, in the team competitions the team of the EPA department «Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic» won II place.

All four team members competed in the individual competition. In the super final, the team captain Serhiy Shulzhenko won II place, and Nikola Oleinikov – IV place.

We are grateful to the organizers for the interesting competitions, which became an impetus for both students and teachers to self-improvement and increase their professional level, and to the leadership of our university for support in preparing for the competitions and the opportunity to be participants in the Olympiad!
