The new tradition of «Machines»

What could be better than the time that a person spends with pleasure, experiencing many positive moments. Each of us has a thirst for victories and achievements. We all admire people who managed to do something unusual, bright, something that not everyone can do.

Motorsport for many boys is the embodiment of their dreams. Fast cars on posters hanging above the bed, toy «supercars». That dream is so unattainable for many, because motor sports is a very difficult and expensive type of competition. The students of «Mashinka» managed to bring this dream a little closer, because on October 18, the «ZNTU Amateur Karting Tournament», organized by the professional bureau of students of the Faculty of Transport, took place.

Karting is a sport in which racers take part in simple cars without a body. It was the first stage in the formation of such icons of motor sports as Mikka Hakkinen, Michael Schumacher, Niki Lauda and many others. This meant that it would not be easy for the participants of the tournament. And so it happened…

10 teams took part in the competition. The honor of the Faculty of Transport was defended by four teams at once: «Dogs», «Curly», «#Godzilla_team», as well as a team from the «DVZ» department – «Devils», the Faculty of International Tourism and Management was represented by the «Flash» team, «Table Monsters» and the «Lufthansa» team represented the ETF, and the «KNT-shnyki» team represented the KNT. FRET was represented by the MSDN Drive team, and the Schumacher Brothers team represented the campus. It all started with five-minute familiarization runs. All participants had the opportunity to get used to the handling of the karts, to study the configuration of the circuit of the «Baikonur» kart track, where the tournament was held. Familiarization races lasted for an hour, and their end meant the beginning of the real races, or rather qualifying races. During qualifying, pilots raced against time, trying to complete four qualifying laps as quickly as possible. The results of each member of the team were compiled in the overall team time. As a result, a table was formed, according to which eight teams qualified for the «first four» and «second four», the teams that took ninth and tenth place were eliminated from the tournament. Unfortunately, they turned out to be «Flash» and «MSDN Drive». The participants received Certificates «for participation in the university karting tournament», certificates for the mafia game, as well as the right to consolation races. The best time in the qualification was shown by the «Dogs» team, which was 17 seconds faster than the nearest pursuers. The remaining competitors competed in quarter-final elimination heats where each driver from one team competed against a competitor from the other in three-lap heats. The winner was the one who crossed the finish line first. In the quarterfinals of the «first four», the «Dogs» team won against «Lufthansa», «#Godzilla_team» knocked out the «Brothers Schumacher» from the tournament. In the «second four» «KNT-shniks» and «Table monsters» made it to the semi-finals. The semi-final races were held according to the same principle, but only between the captains. In the «first four», a transport derby was planned, but the «Dogs» team withdrew from the competition, giving the right to defend the honor of the Transport Faculty to the pilots of «#Godzilla_team» without a fight. «KNT-shniks» became the best in the «second four», knocking out «Table Monsters» from the tournament and forming the final pair. In the race for the championship, the captains of the teams competed against each other over a distance of five laps. According to the pre-start draw, the more favorable internal position at the start was taken by the «KNT-shnyk» card. He jumped ahead immediately from the start and, throughout the entire distance, did not give himself a chance to overtake.

After four hours of fierce fighting, burned tires, victories and defeats, we determined the best. They became the «KNT-shniki» team, which won the ZNTU Karting Cup, which is transitional. That is, the karting tournament will be annual and, we hope, will become a good tradition of our beloved «Mashinka»!
