Shrovetide: We meet spring!
On February 17, 2015, at 11 a.m., a Shrovetide celebration took place near the Zaporizhzhia Regional Puppet Theater.
Maslyanytsia is a traditional folk and everyone’s favorite holiday in honor of the spring awakening of nature.
The celebration was attended by students of the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University and students of the Zaporizhzhia National University, as well as ordinary passers-by and young mothers with their children. At the beginning of the holiday, several invited guests gave an impassioned speech to the audience. Educators of the Center for Children’s and Youth Creativity delighted students and passers-by with poems and songs. Also, the team of KVN «Zaporizhsky Vector Mashinka» took part in the event, which entertained the audience well and gave a good mood for the whole day. At the end of the celebration, the host offered to taste pancakes with tea or coffee and everyone present happily agreed. And I can’t help but notice that everyone really liked the Shrovetide delicacies and the holiday in general.
The concert ended with the burning of an effigy, which since ancient times symbolizes the funeral of winter and the meeting of spring. Despite the minus temperature, it was very sunny. Therefore, we hope that the good weather during the celebration contributed to the fact that spring will come to us as soon as possible!
