«Bloody» Thursday
For the information of all the frightened and those who did not hear the latest news – there was no massacre at ZNTU, but a donor day was held. On April 17 and 18, all students and employees of the Higher Education Institution had the opportunity to donate blood without breaking away from the educational process. To donate blood, you needed a desire, a passport and the fulfillment of several requirements, which I will tell you about later.
So what is donation? From the Latin «donare» means to give, i.e. donation is a voluntary donation of blood or its components. This is not only a measure to help people who need a transfusion to save or prolong life, but also for scientific research purposes. This treatment begins with bloodletting, thereby stimulating the production of new blood in the body. In modern medicine, there are whole blood banks and laboratories for checking it for diseases and infections.
The donor movement, the main principles of which are based on kindness, humanism and mercy to people, is now gaining new momentum in popularity. His advocacy is based on mutual benefit for both parties: the recipient receives blood or its components, which are so necessary for normal life, and the donor renews his own blood, which promotes better metabolism and is a prevention of various diseases.
In my opinion, everyone who was faced with the choice of donating blood heard «scary» stories. I, a systematic donor, can dispel the most widespread ones by my own example. Donating blood is no more painful and scary than a regular intravenous injection or taking blood for analysis. The only inconveniences that may befall the donor are a small diet and a relatively early rise from bed. Donating blood is not dangerous because it is carried out by qualified specialists using disposable sterile equipment. The procedure is completely safe if the requirements I promised to tell you about are met:
If you are of legal age and registered in the city where you donate blood.
You have not suffered from any diseases and have not taken any potent drugs recently.
You followed the nutrition and lifestyle recommendations prescribed by the blood transfusion center.
Congratulations, you have a chance to save someone’s life.
Many ZNTUSHniks donated blood these days. On April 17, the field team of the Regional Blood Transfusion Station accepted blood. On this day, 158 people became donors. On April 18, 76 people donated blood to the brigade of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital. Television was also present.
In general, about 300 people took part in the Donor Day. Some could not donate blood due to their health, but despite this, a significant contribution was made. Who knows how many lives will be saved thanks to this kind of self-sacrifice. The Zaporizhzhia Regional Blood Transfusion Station and the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital express their sincere gratitude to all active donors and people participating in such events. I can personally express my hope that such actions will become more frequent and massive for the sake of improving the health of the nation and its moral growth.
