Integration of Internet of Things technologies into the process of training IT specialists
On April 20, the Department of Software Tools, as part of the annual scientific and practical conference of teachers, scientists, young scientists, postgraduates and students of ZNTU «Science Week-2016», presented the first startup at ZNTU – opensource of the SMART LIFE project, which combines several subsystems to create a real Internet of Things in the office, in the house, in the apartment, on the plot, etc.
The system was implemented thanks to investments of Ukrainian businessmen Oleh Pozdnyakov (BrigRetail, Kyiv) and Danylo Slizinov (VANDERSLAB, Zaporizhzhia), as well as equipment purchased under the international educational project TEMPUS DESIRE 544091-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR «Development of courses on embedded systems using innovative approaches for the integration of education, science and production in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia».
The alpha version of the SMART LIFE project was successfully presented by a team of students of the Department of Software (scientific supervisor Associate Professor Parkhomenko A.V.):

Microclimate control subsystem (st. gr. KNT-711m, M.O. REZNYCHENKO);
Access control subsystem (st. gr. KNT-712, D.P. KRAVCHENKO, O.P. KRAVCHENKO);
Presence control subsystem (st. gr. KNT-711m, E. P. GRIGOR'EV);
Air conditioning control subsystem (st. gr. KNT-411, O.G. GOLOVIZNIN);
Hive control subsystem (stud. gr. KNT-711m, S. K. MISYURA);
Greenhouse control subsystem (stud. gr. KNT-413, M.A. SHVYDKIY).
Until recently, the Internet was mainly a means of communication and information exchange between people (the «Internet of people»), but now it is becoming an environment and technology for the interaction of «things», both physical and virtual. The world is starting to interact with «things» in a different way. Therefore, companies today need appropriate specialists to develop and create new technologies for effective customer interaction with «things».
According to analysts, in the next ten years, about 2 million vacant jobs will be created in the field of information technology (IT) and communications, which will be unfilled. The industry needs more and more graduates with knowledge and practical skills in business analytics, hardware engineering, information security, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
That is why, to integrate IoT into the educational process of training IT specialists in the specialty «Information Design Technologies», practically-oriented teaching methods based on the implementation of the SMART LIFE project have been introduced.
In addition, in the new Laboratory of Embedded Systems and Remote Engineering of the Department of Software, students have the opportunity to personally test new products of the 3D industry (3D printer and 3D scanner), virtual and augmented reality devices, remotely controlled experiments GOLDi (Grid of Online Lab Devices) and RELDES (REmote Laboratory for Design of Embedded Systems), platforms for teaching robotics Flow buggy, and much more.
