Achievements and prospects of international cooperation with Ilmenau Technical University

From August 21, 2018 to August 26, 2018, Prof. Karsten Henke and René Hutschenreuther, lecturers at the Faculty of Informatics and Automation at the Technical University of Ilmenau (Germany).

On August 23, 2018, the rector of the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. S. Belikov solemnly awarded the diploma of honorary professor of ZNTU to the professor of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies of the Technical University of Ilmenau, Dr. Karsten Henke, and noted the significant contribution of Prof. K. Henke in the development of international and scientific cooperation of ZNTU.

Ilmenau Technical University (Germany) and Zaporizhzhia National Technical University have been fruitfully cooperating since 2012. During 6 years of cooperation, 2 international educational projects were jointly implemented. In the first project – ICOOp: Industrial cooperation and creative engineering education based on remote engineering and virtual tools 530278-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-DE-TEMPUS-JPHES, in which Dr. Ing. Carsten Henke was a grant holder, ZNTU received one of the first GOLDi remote laboratories in Ukraine (http://www.goldi-labs.net/) worth 25,000 euros. Project DESIRE: Development of courses on embedded systems using innovative virtual approaches for integration of science, education and industry in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia 544091-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-BE-TEMPUS-JPCR, which was carried out jointly with partners from Belgium and Slovakia, was a logical continuation. During the implementation of these projects, a joint monograph was published, 8 textbooks were published, and 9 teachers completed internships at European universities.

As a result of fruitful scientific cooperation in the field of remote and virtual engineering, a laboratory of virtual engineering and embedded systems was created at the department of software tools (Head of the Faculty, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. S.O. Subbotin). The results of joint research have been published in 16 scientific papers referenced in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.

In 2017, a grant was received for individual mobility within the Erasmus+ KA1 program between our universities. In 2017-2018 3 ZNTU teachers (Ph.D., Associate Professor M.O. Polyakov, Ph.D., Associate Professor A.V. Parkhomenko, Ph.D., Associate Professor G.V. Tabunshchik) and 1 student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Devices completed internships at Ilmenau Technical University. In October 2017, Ilmenau Technical University lecturers held lectures on the use of the GOLDi remote laboratory. In the fall semester of 2018-2019, within the framework of the first inter-institutional agreement, the Ilmenau Technical University plans to train 2 students of ZNTU of the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology and a student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. In 2018, additional funding was received as part of Erasmus+ KA1 individual credit mobility for 2018-2020.

Thanks to the assistance of prof. Karsten Henke this year managed to expand the international cooperation between ZNTU and the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Austria) and the Technical University of Brasov (Romania).

The program of the visit of Prof. K. Henke and R. Hutschenreuther also included lectures on the new capabilities of the GOLDi remote laboratory, visits to the laboratories of the Department of Software and Department of Electrical and Electronic Devices, a visit to the Museum of Technical Progress of ZNTU, Khortytsia Island, and the grand opening of the «Yunist» Sports Palace.
