A delegation of builders from Ukraine also reached Belarus

This summer, the Komsomol organization of Ukraine formed a youth construction squad, which for 40 days from 01.07.13 to 09.08.13 in Minsk (Belarus) built a student campus for students and graduate students from the entire city. 10 people, including a graduate of our famous Mashinka, who was the only representative of Zaporizhzhia – this is the composition of the delegation from Ukraine.

We managed to talk to our graduate – Yatsenko Oleh Valeriyovych, and ask about their work.

Oleh shared that there were three delegations in total: from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. Ukrainian was the friendliest, so they worked together until the very end. And they showed themselves to be the best and most well-coordinated team. After all, by the end, only four people remained from the Russian delegation, all the others had left…

The student campus was built by the company «Monolit», and the host party was the Belarusian Republican Youth Union. The employment contract was concluded with each employee personally by the host party, and they issued them a work permit.

The standard working day is – from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 9-10:00, because the amount of work was almost small: they carried sand, plastered walls, helped with everything… They fed once a day, but in the meantime they allocated money separately for food (approximately 60 hryvnias on Sunday, which was «more than enough»). The salary for the entire period of time (40 days) was 600 US dollars.

They lived in a dormitory, which they built, with all the living conditions.

Oleh said that such an international construction team was organized for the first time in many years of Ukraine’s independence, when students from other countries were invited, and in general, it is customary there that in the summer, when studies end, students stay and work in construction teams, and not only boys, but also girls. They were mainly engaged in improving the territory of the dormitories».

As for the cultural program, Oleh shared with us that upon arrival they happened to be at a concert dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, on the second day they visited the opening of the Flag Square, and even took part – stood with flags; on the third day they visited the parade and were present at the Independence Day holiday itself.

We also saw exhibitions of Savitsky’s paintings and were at the national circus and a dairy for excursions and tastings.

We met with Karpenko – first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, and decided that it was necessary to establish contacts and revive work on cooperation with our youth and students.

To our question «are you satisfied?» Oleh smiled and confidently answered «Of course, we are completely satisfied. This experience should be developed in the future, because it is a good opportunity for additional income for young people».
