Agricultural universities also returned to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy
Along with medical higher educational institutions, agricultural ones were also removed from the subordination of the Ministry of Education
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the President of Ukraine prepared an instruction to the Prime Minister regarding the need to review last year’s decision on the subordination of higher educational institutions in the agricultural sector to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
Such an instruction was given following the results of a meeting held with the participation of the First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Iryna Akimova, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and rectors of agricultural higher educational institutions.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also announced its intentions to continue reforms in agricultural education, which were suspended in connection with the transfer of agricultural universities to the subordination of the Ministry of Education in November last year. Ministry of Education.
Let us recall that at the end of November last year, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science, the government adopted a decision to transfer higher educational institutions of some departments to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Education.
In particular, 19 agricultural universities, 15 medical universities and academies, and several financial and transport higher educational institutions were transferred to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Education.
In recent days, President Viktor Yanukovych has been harshly criticizing the initiators of the transfer of higher educational institutions to the sphere of management of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. In particular, on January 31, Yanukovych, speaking about the reform of the healthcare sector, emphasized that it should be handled by specialists.
«Officials who are responsible must know and understand the industry very well, study world experience. I will give a recent example. There were people who suggested disconnecting the healthcare education system from medical universities, institutes, and medical facilities. We have enough people who, as they say, are not friends with their heads. We have canceled this nonsense. I gave the government an instruction, and a decision has already been made to stop this stupid experiment,» Yanukovych emphasized.
On February 7, speaking in the parliament hall during the opening of the Verkhovna Rada session, the president stated that «one cannot begin reforms of the humanitarian sectors without their clear concept and legislative implementation,» noting that the primary task of the reform is the adoption of a law on higher education.
«An anti-example could be the reform of higher education… The government began the reorganization of higher education institutions earlier than it had determined in the relevant law, which »There should be new principles for their functioning, which has led to problems,” emphasized V. Yanukovych.
