70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Zaporizhzhia

On October 10, 2013, a rally was held to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Zaporizhzhia from the fascist invaders.

The memory of the fallen heroes of the Great Patriotic War was honored during the rally by war and labor veterans, deputies of the regional, city and district councils, youth of the district and city, labor collectives of enterprises, institutions and organizations, and the public of the district.

Zaporizhzhia National Technical University was represented by the first vice-rector Volodymyr Prushkivskyi, deputy of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, head of the Department of International Economic Relations Mykola Gamov, chairman of the ZNTU Veterans Council Valentyn Zaitsev, teachers and representatives of student self-government.

The participants of the event made a solemn speech on the occasion of the opening of the celebrations by the chairman of the district of the Zaporizhzhia City Council administration for the Zhovtnevy district, Oleksandr Manokhin, who called on us to be worthy of our veterans and always remember their feat.

With words of gratitude and respect for the combat and labor feats of veterans and with wishes of peace and prosperity, the following addressed the audience: Deputy Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Andriy Gamov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Major General Anatolii Korol.

Those present honored the bright memory of the immortal heroes with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the monument to the T-34 tank, which was the first to break into the city of Zaporizhzhia during its liberation. The commander, Hero of the Soviet Union Mykola Yatsenko, and the crew members, senior sergeants Georgy Barykun and Mykhailo Lebedev, died a brave death and forever left their names in the history of our city.
