55th anniversary of the Department «Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises»
Department of «Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises» is celebrating its 55th anniversary. The creation of the department was due to the need to train electrical engineers for such enterprises as «Zaporizhstal», «Dniprospetsstal», «Motor Sich», automobile and transformer plants and other industries. Highly qualified specialists were also needed to solve the problems of creating reliable and economical power supply systems for industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture.
The history of the department’s activity began in 1958, when the recruitment of students for the evening form of study in the specialty «Electrical equipment of industrial enterprises» at the foundry faculty opened. In 1960, the recruitment of students was already carried out in two specialties: «Electric drive and automation of industrial installations» and «Electricity supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture». The first graduation of electrical engineers took place in 1965. In 1968, the department became independent. Thus, the formation of the department took place from 1958 to 1968, and officially the day of its birth coincides with the beginning of the activity of the electrical engineering faculty in 1961.
The first teachers of the department were O.M. Sviderska, M.I. Lomeiko, A.N. Svitelska, A.P. Slonevskyi, A.V. Tsvetaeva, then came A.P. Fidrya, A.T. Zheleznyakov, V.I. Kornilova, S.O. Yukhymchuk, N.V. Boryu, I.K. Skapovska, A.T. Ryaboshapka, V.V. Kush, T.M. Konyakhina, and I.I. became the heads of the laboratories. Kuvshinnikov and N.G. Hlushchevska. In different years, the department was headed by: Ph.D., associate professor M.V. Tytarenko (1968 – 1978), Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. S.O. Yukhymchuk (1978 – 1995), Ph.D., Associate Professor V.P. Metelskyi (1995 – 1997), candidate of technical sciences, associate professor V.V. Popov (1999-2000), candidate of technical sciences, associate professor I.V. Avdeev (2001 – 2011).
Currently, the department is headed by Professor V.P. Metelsky, whose team consists of 20 employees, 13 of them are teachers: Ph.D., Professor D.O. Kulagin, Ph.D., Associate Professors I.V. Avdeev, P.V. Makhlin, O.M. Klimko, V.V. Popov, O.I. Baisha, A.P. Zabolotny, O.A. Shram, V.V. Dyachenko, D.V. Fedosha, O.V. Nemykina, art. off V. L. Prykhno, as well as heads of laboratories O. I. Kuzmenko. and S.E. Malyshko, Art. laboratory assistants Metlushan S.M., Toncheva T.M., Stovbun L.A. and laboratory assistants Fedoryak O.V., Propyeva N.M. Currently, the department consists of teachers with the scientific degree of candidate of technical sciences – more than 90 percent. Over the past five years, 4 candidate theses were defended at the department, namely Shrama O.A. (topic «Ion-plasma treatment of glass surface at atmospheric pressure», 2012), V.V. Dyachenko. (topic «Methods of ensuring energy efficiency of power supply systems of industrial enterprises», 2013), Fedoshy D.V. (the topic «Development of the method of forming the structure of radial topology shop power supply systems», 2015) and Nemykina O.V. (the topic «Increasing the efficiency of power supply systems of cranes with a frequency-regulated drive», 2016).
After receiving the scientific degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in 2011, Professor D.O. Kulagin is preparing to defend his doctoral thesis in the near future. He is currently the author of 52 articles in professional publications, 6 monographs, 48 patents and copyright certificates, 43 theses of reports at conferences, and is also the scientific supervisor of 3 graduate students. Along with teaching activities of a high level, the associate professor of the department Shram O.A. is also engaged in scientific research, which is reflected in more than 40 scientific works. He also takes an active part in the scientific and social activities of the department and the university, starting from the years of study, for which he received a scholarship from the President of Ukraine. Under the leadership of Associate Professor Schram O.A. students perform research works that occupy prize cities and participate in scientific and technical conferences.
In general, all the teachers of the department hold a high bar in the teaching and research spheres, have a sufficiently high number of scientific works and methodical developments in the following areas: increasing the reliability and cost-effectiveness of power supply systems; energy saving in power consumption and power supply systems; the use of low-temperature plasma for the intensification of technological processes, where the most significant scientific results were obtained. Preparation of bachelors, specialists, masters, full-time and part-time graduate students, externs is carried out. Scientific monographs, textbooks, scientific articles, theses and patents are published.
In addition to the specialty «Electrotechnical systems of electricity consumption» of the department, which is accredited at the 4th level and has a license to train full-time and part-time bachelors, specialists, masters, since 2003, the training of specialists in the specialty «Energy Management» began. Graduates of this specialty work in the energy services of industrial and communal enterprises, and some after graduate school plan to develop scientific research in energy conservation in the following areas: Yu. Daus (grad. 2008, science director, associate professor A.P. Zabolotny) – increasing the efficiency of rural electrical networks using alternative energy sources; Komarychyna D. (graduation of 2013, scientific director, prof. Metelsky V.P.) – increasing the efficiency of power supply systems of industrial enterprises; Romenskyi I. (graduation of 2013, scientific manager, Prof. D.O. Kulagin) – increasing the efficiency of diesel generators.
To ensure educational and scientific processes, the department has unique laboratories with the latest equipment («Renewable and alternative energy sources», «Modern systems of accounting and measurement of electric energy», «Metrology and measuring equipment»), as well as updated traditional laboratories («Electrical stations and substations», «Electrical devices», «Installation and operation of electrical equipment», «Electrotechnological installations», «Power supply of industrial enterprises», «Electrotechnical systems and networks», «Relay protection»). Graduates of the department were involved in the creation of these laboratories, and the ideas of their organization belong to associate professors of the department: A.P. Zabolotny, P.V. Makhlin, O.M. Klimko, I.V. Avdeev, O.V. Nemykina, V.V. Popov, but without competent technical consultation and participation of the laboratory heads O.I. Kuzmenko. and Malyshko S.E. creation of these laboratories was not possible. The department also has a laboratory «Modeling and optimization in power supply systems», where Art. laboratory assistant Metlushan S.M. organizes students’ work on new computers. She also participates in the development of software packages to support the educational process under the leadership of associate professors O.A. Shram, D.V. Fedoshy, V.V. Dyachenko, and V.V. Popova. The organization of document circulation and various current matters are performed by our laboratory assistants T.M. Toncheva. and O.V. Fedoryak, whose work helps all teachers to carry out the educational process in a high-quality manner.
However, the main wealth of the department is its best graduates, they glorify the department and the university with conscientious creative work in rank and senior positions. Years pass, life circumstances change, and the prestige of the electrical engineering profession remains unchanged. In what position would he not work. He is respected and appreciated everywhere. This is evidenced by the high entrance competition, the growing number of applications for graduates of the department, and their authority at the workplace.
