Results of cooperation between Zaporizhia Polytechnic University and the IOM Representative Office in Ukraine
NU “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Office in Ukraine are linked by fruitful cooperation. Throughout all the years of the full-scale war, IOM systematically supported the dormitories of the Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic campus, which became a shelter for internally displaced persons.
Thanks to joint efforts, we provided the internally displaced persons with multi-purpose support. The establishment of life in the dormitories of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic became a good example of effective cooperation. IOM provided cash grants for the renovation of premises, rooms and corridors, the replacement of windows and plumbing, and when the task of organizing recreation and quality socialization arose, the partners took care of leisure and the moral climate in the places of temporary residence of the displaced community.
We are glad that this cooperation continues and has its significant results. At the end of 2025, in order to improve the quality of living conditions and ensure proper sanitary standards for internally displaced persons, the university administration turned to the Mission of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine (IOM) with a request to assist in the repair of common areas (corridor, kitchen, bathroom) and the replacement of entrance doors to rooms in residential blocks on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors, where IDPs live, as well as to equip an accessible toilet for people with disabilities on the 2nd floor in dormitory No. 4.
And already at the beginning of 2026 there are results. The International Organization for Migration (affiliated with the UN, Office in Ukraine) carried out free construction and repair works at the Polytechnic within the framework of the project “Responding to the urgent needs of the war-affected population and strengthening the capabilities of local actors in Ukraine” (“IOM Project”), which is implemented by IOM with funding from the Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations of the European Commission.
Comprehensive dismantling and installation works of water supply and sewage systems, electrical wiring, heating were carried out, plumbing, lamps, switches, balcony blocks and windows, doors were replaced, floors and ceilings were repaired, plasterboard partitions were installed and walls were painted on the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th floors of dormitory No. 4 of Zaporizhia Polytechnic.
The total amount of work performed exceeded 3.5 million UAH.
We thank our partners for their support and assistance in implementing extremely important projects that directly affect the quality of living!
