IT specialists will be trained in a new way
The Ministry of Education immediately responded to the Prime Minister’s remarks on the quality of training in the field of IT technologies and «arming» young people with competitive advantages
The relevant department, in fulfillment of the instructions of the head of government, issued a letter of recommendation on improving the quality of training specialists for the IT industry.
As is known, Mykola Azarov, during a government meeting, commenting on the results of his meeting with the rectors of leading universities that train information technology specialists and heads of IT companies, noted that young people sometimes do not possess elementary skills.
In particular The Prime Minister noted: «The education provided by Ukrainian universities is generally not bad. Its competitiveness decreases at the stage of practical application. Both rectors and businessmen talked about blatant cases when young people, having literally brilliant innovative ideas, simply lose them, therefore they do not yet have legal and marketing knowledge, do not have the support of patent specialists, etc. Graduates do not have elementary skills in conducting negotiations and presentations, and sometimes do not speak English.»
At the same time, Azarov noted that: «We are able to »arm« our youth with competitive advantages, which for them and for the state are a matter of survival in extraordinarily difficult economic conditions. Only in this way will it be possible to resist crisis phenomena.»
In order to correct the situation, the Ministry of Education recommended that the heads of regional education departments and rectors develop and implement in universities in the areas of training IT specialists in-depth English language study program taking into account the chosen specialty.
The ministry also recommended including separate disciplines «Fundamentals of Marketing» and «Fundamentals of Patent Law» in the curricula, and improving the legal training of IT specialists by increasing the number of hours spent studying relevant legal disciplines or their content modules.
The Ministry of Education noted the need to revise the content of regulatory disciplines taught in the training of specialists in the field of knowledge «Informatics and Computer Engineering» in accordance with modern achievements in the development of information technologies.
The letter from the relevant department also contains a recommendation to implement measures to increase the level of practical training of students with the involvement of employers in its organization by introducing various forms of student internships in IT companies and developing and implementing graduate adaptation programs in production.
The relevant ministry does not report on measures to improve the quality of training of specialists for other sectors of the economy.
