Taras Shevchenko — the voice of freedom that sounds through the centuries

March 9 marks the 212th anniversary of the birth of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, the great Ukrainian poet, artist, thinker, and fighter for the dignity of his people.

His words became a spiritual support for generations of Ukrainians. In the 19th century, they awakened national consciousness, helped people realize themselves as a people with their own history, language, and culture. In the 20th and 21st centuries, his poetry has not lost its power — it continues to sound like a call for freedom, truth, and human dignity.

Today, as Ukraine once again defends its independence, Shevchenko’s lines take on special significance. They have faith, courage and indomitability that support those who defend our land. His word reminds us: freedom is worth fighting for, and love for the Motherland is the greatest strength.

Taras Shevchenko is not just a page of history. He is a living part of our culture, our memory and our future. His work continues to inspire, unite and give hope.

Let us remember his word, preserve our culture and build a strong, free Ukraine.

Glory to Ukraine!
