STEM project “Smart House” for students of Zaporizhia gymnasiums

In the fall semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, teachers of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University traditionally implemented the STEM project “Smart House” for students of gymnasiums No. 89, No. 106 and No. 109.

The STEM project “Smart House” is engineering that works in real life. Schoolchildren get acquainted with the areas of study at the Zaporizhia Polytechnic University and, at the same time, create their own “smart” system for the home: with sensors, microcontrollers and programs that control light, security and energy consumption. They don’t just learn, they do things that really simplify life.

During the work, the students got acquainted with the principles of IoT (Internet of Things), learned the advantages of modern technologies and studied the operation of light, motion, and temperature sensors, as well as developed algorithms for automatic control of lighting, climate, and home security. The project also included a presentation of solutions, analysis of effectiveness, and prospects for their implementation in everyday life. According to the students, the most interesting thing was to evaluate the possibilities of energy saving in everyday life through simple and affordable solutions from the Department of Power Supply of Industrial Enterprises.

Based on the results of the defense of the presentations of the functional prototype of the “Smart House”, the jury noted:
– Anastasia Vusyk, Yevheniy Kolisnyk from Gymnasium 109
– Victoria Zhadovska, Karolina Krutikova, Anna Tovstokora, Leonid Sapozhynskyi, Anna Sinchenko, Dasha Nigmatova, Anastasia Bohdan from Gymnasium 89
– Roman Holovatenko, Anna Malinovska, Anna Klinkova, Yevheniy Sinenko, Valeria Bolsun from Gymnasium 106

Thank you to the teachers who accompanied the students on the way to the implementation of the project: Svitlana Ruslanova (109 gymnasium), Olena Marchenko (89 gymnasium), Danylo Rengevych (106 gymnasium).

Working together – developing together!
