Schoolchildren tried themselves as criminologists

On March 3, a practical session was held in the “Young Lawyer” group of the Children’s and Youth Scientific University, during which the students felt like real forensic experts!

The meeting was dedicated to the topic of fixing and studying fingerprints – one of the key areas of forensics. Young lawyers learned how specialists in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine work, got acquainted with the features of filling out a fingerprint card and the rules for taking fingerprints.

Each participant learned how to fix their own fingerprints using special materials. Of particular interest was the process of detecting hidden traces on various surfaces using the powder method. The children learned to carefully remove traces and transfer them to a medium for further research.

Working in teams, the students analyzed the results and drew their own conclusions. Such practical activities helped to better understand the importance of evidence in the criminal process and the role of an expert in establishing the truth.

The class was conducted by Olga Shiyan, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal, Civil and International Law, who not only shared her professional experience, but was also able to show that law is modern, interesting and extremely important.
