A journey through the history of Zaporizhia Polytechnic University
On December 3, an author’s excursion “Journey through the history of Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”, better known among the participants as “Journey in the Old Machine”, was held. The tour guide was Volodymyr Chop, associate professor of the Department of Ukrainian Studies and General Language Training.
About thirty visitors had a unique opportunity to see the university in a way that is usually overlooked – alive, multifaceted, full of stories and architectural artifacts. The main building, officially recognized as an architectural monument of regional significance, appeared before the guests in all its historical glory.
The participants got acquainted with artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries, learned about the people and events that shaped the 125-year history of the university, and discovered many little-known facts. Volodymyr Chop — an expert on the history of the “Old Machine” — accompanied the walk with fascinating stories, humorous interludes, and personal memories, which made the journey truly warm and lively.
The guests were particularly impressed by the majestic assembly hall and library, which have preserved their authenticity since the time of their foundation. Participants had the opportunity to walk through the corridors and classrooms, literally touching the history of one of the oldest technical institutions in the region.
The next excursion is planned for spring 2026. It promises to be even larger: visitors will be able to see historical artifacts not only in the main building, but also throughout the territory of the former “technical school estate” and its surroundings.
To new discoveries and new encounters with the “Old Machine”!
