Guest lecture "Activities of the Ombudsman of Ukraine. Practical aspects of monitoring the observance of human rights"
On October 22, a guest lecture “Activities of the Ombudsman of Ukraine. Practical aspects of monitoring compliance with human rights” was held at the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University, which was held by the representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Zaporizhia region, Mykhailo Volkov. The lecture was organized with the support of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and Labor Law.
The meeting was attended by scientific and pedagogical workers and students of the Faculty of Law, as well as students and employees of other faculties who are interested in the implementation and protection of human rights in Ukraine. Pro-Rector Andriy Ivanchenko welcomed the participants and wished them an inspired discussion.
During the lecture, Mr. Mykhailo spoke about the main areas of activity of the Ombudsman institution, about issues related to the protection of human rights and the peculiarities of monitoring their observance by the Ombudsman, about the activities of the office, the reception of citizens, and also provided practical recommendations on protecting one’s own rights. Among the painful issues raised during the lecture:
– the participation of the office Ombudsman in the return of prisoners of war and civilian hostages
– protection and return of forcibly deported and displaced children outside Ukraine
– protection of people in places of deprivation of liberty
The participants discussed the issues of environmental safety and protection of the rights to a safe environment relevant to the Zaporizhia region and Zaporizhia, as well as the topics of protection of the right to fair justice and the right to appeal.
Open meetings, where you can join the dialogue with experts-practitioners, are a mandatory part of the educational process at Zaporizhia Polytechnic. This lecture contributed to increasing legal awareness and developing a culture of respect for human rights and freedoms.
