Department of "Criminal, Civil and International Law"

The department trains bachelors and masters in the specialties D8 "Law", educational program "Jurisprudence" and K9 "Law Enforcement Activities", educational program "Law Enforcement Activities", as well as doctors of philosophy and doctors of science. The year of foundation of the department is 2014.

Department of "Constitutional, Administrative and Labor Law"

The department trains bachelors and masters in the specialties D8 "Law", educational program "Jurisprudence" and K9 "Law Enforcement Activities", educational program "Law Enforcement Activities", as well as doctors of philosophy and doctors of science. The year of foundation of the department is 2014.

Department of Political Science and General Legal Disciplines

The department trains bachelors, masters and doctors of philosophy in the specialty C2 "Political Science", educational program "Political Science". The year of foundation of the department is 2016.

Educational and scientific laboratory of advocacy

The laboratory within the structure of the Faculty of Law was created by the decision of the Academic Council of the University dated August 28, 2025 with the aim of deepening cooperation with the Council of Advocates of the Zaporizhzhia Region, improving the training of highly qualified lawyers, developing scientific research, and strengthening the practical component of the educational process.

History of the Faculty of Law

 

For the development of civil society in Ukraine, it is important to form a new, higher level of legal awareness and legal culture of the population. In view of this, legal education and legal training are of great importance. The evolutionary development of society is impossible without deep knowledge of rights and freedoms, current legislation and political processes. At Zaporizhia National Technical University (now Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University), since 2007, the Department of Law, which was part of the Faculty of Humanities and Law, has been training legal specialists. From 2007 to 2014, the Department of Law was headed by Associate Professor Yuriy Volodymyrovych Filey. In 2014, as a result of the reorganization of the Department of Law, the Department of Criminal, Civil and International Law, as well as the Department of Constitutional, Administrative and Labor Law, were established. On September 1, 2016, the Faculty of Law was established, headed by Assoc. Prof. Filey Yuriy Volodymyrovych. Deputy Dean – Assoc. Prof. Nadienko Olena Ivanivna. Methodist – Kupina Iryna Arnoldivna. The activities of the Faculty of Law are aimed at high-quality training and conducting the educational process taking into account modern achievements of science and practice. The Faculty of Law implements the function of organizing and managing the training of higher education applicants at the bachelor’s and master’s levels of higher education, as well as at the educational and scientific level of Doctor of Philosophy and the scientific level of Doctor of Sciences. The main goal of the Faculty of Law is to provide the necessary conditions for applicants to obtain bachelor’s and master’s levels of higher education, high-quality training of highly qualified scientific specialists, based on the modern level of knowledge and scientific research, as well as the education of professionals who are able to work successfully in a competitive environment in Ukraine and abroad. The Faculty of Law has established traditions that the scientific and pedagogical staff and talented students preserve and multiply.

The democratization of all social relations has created conditions and new forms of implementation of one of the main constitutional human rights – the right to education. The main areas of activity are educational and methodological, scientific and research, educational and career guidance work. The faculty consists of three departments. The Department of Constitutional, Administrative and Labor Law. Since 2014, it has been headed by Doctor of Law, Professor Ruslana Mykolaivna Maksakova. The Department of Criminal, Civil and International Law. Since 2016, it has been headed by Doctor of Law, Professor Tatyana Yevgenivna Leonenko. The Department of Political Science and General Legal Disciplines. Since 2024, it has been headed by Doctor of Law, Professor Yuriy Viktorovych Kyrychenko. In recent years, the Faculty of Law of the National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” has been one of the best in terms of training highly qualified personnel in the Zaporizhzhia region. The faculty trains bachelors, masters, postgraduates and doctoral students in the specialty 081 “Law”, bachelors and masters in the specialty 262 “Law enforcement activities”, as well as bachelors, masters and postgraduates in the specialty 052 “Political science”. The high level of training of graduates is ensured by the strong teaching staff of the faculty, which fruitfully works with students in a friendly atmosphere of community, mutual respect and understanding. The faculty has skillfully combined classical academic traditions of education and the latest trends in European integration of the educational process, the use of modern teaching technologies. All faculty employees are constantly improving their qualifications, undergoing retraining in leading universities in Ukraine, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland. The introduction of scientific research into the educational process is one of the priority areas of organizing scientific work at the Faculty of Law. The results of dissertation research and scientific research are implemented in the educational process, where they are used to prepare new educational courses. In recent years, the faculty has prepared and published numerous textbooks and lecture courses in all disciplines provided. Significant attention is paid to the formation of a high-quality teaching staff at the faculty. Practitioners are involved in teaching professionally oriented disciplines. Faculty teachers and students constantly participate in numerous regional, all-Ukrainian and international conferences, publish their scientific achievements in leading professional publications in Ukraine and the world. The faculty actively encourages and supports the scientific work of students. Great attention is also paid to educational and career guidance work with students and future applicants. Student self-government, which actively functions at the faculty, complements the educational process with creative ideas, group and scientific research, volunteer work, leadership attempts, interesting trips and active participation in amateur artistic activities. The faculty’s teaching staff sees the main tasks of modern education in the preparation of competent, culturally developed, highly qualified specialists with sound knowledge, endowed with maturity of mind, independence of judgment and full of responsibility both to society and to their own conscience. Professors and associate professors of the Faculty of Law try to form in graduates a sense of national dignity, patriotism, decency, justice and a relentless pursuit of new knowledge. This is what determines the content and nature of the educational process, the direction of student scientific work. At the Faculty of Law, students have the opportunity to receive not only deep and systematic knowledge, but also, reinforcing them with practical training, to join real work in state bodies, local government bodies, and legal institutions. Student years are one of the brightest in a person’s life. Our main task is to create conditions under which students will never regret the choice of place of study. The Faculty of Law always supports the intellectual, creative, and sports talents of students, promotes their development and mastery of professional skills in order to build a future career. The Faculty of Law continues to develop the best traditions in the methodology of teaching theoretical and applied aspects of scientific and methodological activities, clearly adhering to modern educational requirements that are currently facing higher education.
