Memorial event “Revolution on Granite”

As part of the action, the youth of Zaporizhia Polytechnic University remembered the students who participated in the “Revolution on Granite” 35 years ago.

The action is dedicated to the events of October 1990, when students peacefully protested against the current government in the central square of Kyiv. This non-violent action became the first large-scale student strike in almost independent Ukraine and went down in history as an important part of the struggle for democracy and independence of the state.

A symbolic space of memory was created in the FREETIME Youth Hub – an arch on which students placed origami tents with inscriptions-messages “What would I stand for today?” The installation is a kind of reminder to us that the voice of youth is always powerful, and today it sounds even louder.
