On September 23, a meeting of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Zaporizhia Region was held on the basis of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University.
The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Zaporizhia Region, Rector of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University Viktor Greshta.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Zaporizhia Polytechnic National University, the Tavria State Agro-Technological University named after D. Motorny, the municipal higher educational institution “Khortytsky National Educational and Rehabilitation Academy” of the Zaporizhia Regional Council, the Melitopol State Pedagogical University named after B. Khmelnytsky, the Berdyansk State Pedagogical University and the Zaporizhia Institute of Economics and Information Technologies.
Andriy Khmelnytsky, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science, also participated in the event. Zaporizhzhia City Council. He emphasized the readiness to continue to support the Zaporizhzhia educational community, its ideas, initiatives and projects.
The participants of the meeting summed up the results of the 2025 admission campaign and outlined the key problems of the functioning of the Zaporizhzhia region’s higher education institutions under martial law. Particular attention was focused on key issues: a decrease in the number of applicants for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the region and from temporarily occupied territories, as well as a lack of material resources for the proper preparation of civil defense structures intended for shelter.
Following the results of the meeting of the Council of Rectors of the Zaporizhia Region and in order to preserve human capital and ensure industrial potential in regions that are fundamentally important for maintaining the country’s defense capability and economy, consolidated proposals of higher education institutions of the Zaporizhia Region were developed regarding the formation of the Procedure for Admission to Higher Education in 2026, the key ones of which are:
– to provide for special conditions for admission, for persons whose place of residence is registered (declared) in the territory of possible hostilities, to universities located in the territory of possible hostilities, in the form of participation in a competition based on the results of an interview/entrance exams in university (for specialties specified in the List of specialties that are provided with special support) provided that the requirements for applicants to the relevant educational program are met within the terms specified by the educational institution, but no later than the date of admission to the certification of higher education applicants
– increase the value of the regional coefficient for applicants to higher education institutions in the Zaporizhia region from 1.07 to 1.10
– adjust the formula for calculating the competitive score for applicants for specialties specified in the List of specialties that are provided with special support
– suspend the procedure for forming the minimum tuition fee for obtaining higher education based on indicative cost for the period of martial law
